At just 26 years old, Gramophone’s 2017 “Young Artist of the Year” Beatrice Rana has already shaken the international classical music scene, gaining admiration and interest from concert presenters, conductors, critics and audiences around the world. In 2017, Ms. Rana released a milestone album, Bach’s Goldberg Variations on Warner Classics, and embarked on a 30-city tour of the work. Debuting at No. 1 on the U.K.Classical Charts, the recording was praised by reviewers worldwide. In 2018, she was nominated as 2018 Female Artist of the Year at the Classic BRIT Awards, where she performed for a nationally televised audience at Royal Albert Hall.
Born in Italy into a family of musicians in 1993, Beatrice Rana began her studies at the age of four and made her orchestral debut at nine, performing music by J.S. Bach. She earned her piano degree under the guidance of Benedetto Lupo, her lifetime mentor, at the Nino Rota Conservatory in Monopoli, where she also studied composition with Marco della Sciucca. She later studied at the Hochschule fur Musik in Hannover and currently lives in Rome.
Beatrice will be joined for this performance by her sister, cellist Ludovica Rana. Ludovica Rana is the laureate of prestigious competitions, such as the 30th Rassegna Nazionale d’Archi “M. Benvenuti” in Vittorio Veneto in 2010, and the 9th International Competition for young cellists “A. Janigro” in Croatia in 2012. She was awarded the Special Prize at Premio delle Arti, a competition organized by the Italian Ministry for Education and Research, as well as the Young Virtuoso Prize at First Manhattan International Music Competition.
Ludovica is a graduate from the Conservatory of Music “G. Paisiello” in Taranto, and in 2016 she graduated from Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano where she studied with Enrico Dindo. She has participated in master classes with cellists such as Conradin Brotbek, Michael Flaksman, Johannes Goritzki, Gary Hoffman, Antonio Meneses, Antonio Mosca, Jelena Ocic, Asier Polo, and Rafael Wolfish. She has also taken lessons with Miklós Perényi at the Kronberg Academy Festival.Ludovica has performed as soloist in many venues including Società dei Concerti in Milano, Festival di Pietrasanta, Musica Insieme Bologna, Varignana Chamber Music Festival, Amiata Piano Festival, and Classiche Forme.
Ludovica is an avid chamber musician and has played with Enrico Dindo, Pablo Ferrandez, Quartetto di Cremona, Deliann::Quartet, Bruno Giuranna, Oleg Kaskiv, Marcello Panni, Massimo Quarta, Danilo Rossi, Alessandro Taverna, and her sister Beatrice Rana. She plays on a cello by Claude-Augustin Miremont (1870).
We are thrilled to present Beatrice and Ludovica Rana in their International Artist Series debut.
