Music in the Park Series Family Concert
Saturday, May 11, 2019 • 11am
Featuring: Bridget Kibbey, Benito Meza, and Samuel Torres
Chalaca, a unique trio comprised of clarinet, harp, and percussion, takes you on a rhythmic journey from the Caribbean and South America all the way to New York City! From the baroque courts of Europe, to the ritual dances of West Africa, to the indigenous populations of modern-day Venezuela, Colombia, and Brazil…Chalaca celebrates the cross-century, cross-cultural migration that formed today’s popular salsa, samba, mambo, joropo, and jequibau forms. Join them in celebrating composers who have immigrated to the United States and the folk masters who inspired them!
