The Modigliani Quartet is a French-based ensemble founded by four close friends in 2003 after their studies at the Paris Conservatory. Today they are recognized as one of the most in-demand string quartets in the world, with annual tours to the United States and Asia, and a discography of 15 prize-winning albums. Their European tours have taken them to the Paris Philharmonie, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Saint-Petersburg Philharmonia and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.

The quartet’s admired discography of the core repertoire for string quartet reads like a “Who’s Who”—discs by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Brahms and Bartok, all critically acclaimed. Dedicated educators, the Modigliani Quartet serve as the Artistic Directors of the Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition, an ideal environment to mentor young musicians, a core value of the quartet’s activities.

The Modigliani Quartet returns to the Music in the Park Series with a program with a uniquely Italian focus, beginning with a quartet that young Mozart wrote while visiting Milan, and concluding with Giuseppe Verdi’s rarely heard string quartet, a masterpiece that is the only surviving work of chamber music by this opera great.

“One of today’s best quartets in the world…Balance, transparency, symphonic comprehension, confident style, their performance reached a very high and inspiring level.”
