In 1895, Leipzig-based Kalliope Musikwerke began producing a large number of disc-type music boxes. In the 1880s, Paul Lochmann, founder of the Symphonion Company, developed the gear-mechanism for disc music boxes–launching an industry for reproducible music with easily changeable songs.
This unit features song-specific 20.5 inch discs and 12 cup-shaped bells for the upper pitches.
