Stefan Jackiw is recognized as one of his generation’s most significant artists, captivating audiences with playing that combines poetry and purity with an impeccable technique, and hailed for playing of “uncommon musical substance” that is “striking for its intelligence and sensitivity” (Boston Globe). Conrad Tao, who appears worldwide as a pianist and composer, has been dubbed a musician of “probing intellect and open-hearted vision” by the New York Times. Jay Campbell has been called “electrifying” by the New York Times, and recognized for approaching both old and new works with the same curiosity and emotional commitment.
For the Music in the Park Series debut, the trio will perform Robert Schumann’s passionate masterpiece, the Piano Trio No. 1 in D Minor, and Maurice Ravel’s Piano Trio in A Minor, completed in 1914 as World War I was breaking out and Ravel himself was preparing to volunteer for military service. A new work by American composer Andrew Norman, widely recognized for his texturally complex music influenced by architecture and the visual arts, will round out the program.
