Hill House Chamber Players 2016-2017
“Women of Note”
The Hill House Chamber Players are Julie Ayer, violin; Catherine Schubilske, violin; Thomas Turner, viola; Tanya Remenikova, cello; and Mary Jo Gothmann, piano. The Players perform at the historic James J. Hill House on Summit Ave in St. Paul, Minnesota. The series is cosponsored by The Schubert Club and the Minnesota Historical Society.
The Hill House Chamber Players will present “Women of Note,” in three sets of concerts during the 2016-2017 season. They will explore rarely heard gems by women composers, as well as favorite works for piano and strings by Schumann, Mozart, and Faure.

Emily E. Hogstad is the author of the blog Song of the Lark. She has appeared on or in MinnPost, the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Minnesota Public Radio, National Public Radio, WQXR, Performance Today, and The New York Times to offer thoughts on topics as diverse as the Minnesota Orchestra’s historic 2015 trip to Cuba, what it means to be a music nerd, and social media activism in the orchestra world. Her great passion is researching the history of women in music, especially the great forgotten female violinists of the past. She lives in St. Paul, Minnesota, with a violin, a viola, a laptop named after Lili Boulanger, and two rescue cats, Gwendolyn and Genevieve.
The Hill House Chamber Players are delighted to introduce their newest member, pianist Mary Jo Gothmann. Mary Jo enjoys a varied career as a chamber musician, soloist, opera coach, and organist. She performs frequently with the Minnesota Orchestra and St Paul Chamber Orchestra and has worked for prestigious opera companies including the Metropolitan Opera, Santa Fe Opera and Minnesota Opera. Mary Jo is a sought after chamber music partner, playing with the Chamber Music Society of Minnesota, Colonial Chamber Music Series, Bakken Trio, JOYA, Taos Chamber Music Festival, and Lakes Area Music Festival
