Charles Asch, cello • Franco Holder, piano
Johannes Brahms – Cello Sonata No. 2 in F major, Op. 99
Nicolo Paganini – Variations on One String on a Theme by Rossini (“Moses”)
Charles Asch is completing his Doctor of Musical Arts Degree at the University of Minnesota, with an active performance schedule of orchestral, chamber, and solo cello music. He received his Master’s degree from Juilliard in 2011, where he studied with Richard Aaron and Fred Sherry. His studies at UMN were with Tanya Remenikova. Recent performances have included a complete Bach Solo Cello Suite series at St. John the Evangelist in St. Paul last spring, and performances with the Lakes Area Music Festival Orchestra in Brainerd, MN this past August. Charles comes from a musical family in Milwaukee, WI, where he grew up also performing on voice and piano.
Franco Holder received his Bachelor of Music degree from Indiana University-Purdue University in 2009, after which he joined the faculty as a collaborative pianist. He has appeared in recital in the United States, Canada, and Europe and in 2013 was named a winner of the Minnesota Music Teachers Association Artistic Ambassador Competition. He enjoys collaborating with musicians and dancers alike and accompanies at Saint Paul Ballet, TU Dance Center, and the University of Minnesota.
