The Bruce P. Carlson Schubert Club Student Scholarship Competition, held each spring for the past 91 years, awards approximately $50,000 annually to young musicians. (An additional $14,000 is given away in other scholarship and grant programs.) Two cash prizes in each age and instrument category are awarded — $2,000 and $1,500–to be used for further musical education. Categories include Strings, Brass/Woodwinds, Guitar, Voice, and Organ and involve students from junior high through graduate levels. The Competition is named in memory of Bruce P. Carlson, executive director of The Schubert Club from 1968 to 2006.

On Sunday, March 22, 2015, one day after the Finals round of the competition, approximately 15 young musicians will perform short excerpts from their winning programs.  While always a great honor to participate in the Winners Recital, being one of the first students to perform on the stage of the new Ordway Concert Hall will bring even more joy to this very special event.

This year’s concert will be introduced by MPR’s classical music host, Alison Young.
