In November of 2021, the Danish String Quartet came to Saint Paul to perform the full cycle of Beethoven string quartets over a series of six concerts in celebration of Ludwig van Beethoven’s 250th birthday, which was in December 2020. These concerts were originally scheduled for May of 2020, but were postponed due to the pandemic. We were honored to be able to present this once-in-a-lifetime series by one of the world’s leading string quartets.
“Composer anniversaries appear in various lists with overwhelming regularity, but Beethoven’s 250th birthday in 2020 is an anniversary not to be overlooked. I couldn’t imagine a more thrilling ensemble to explore Beethoven’s complete quartet cycle than the Danish String Quartet. I hope others will join me in treating this as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to dig deep into an important part of Beethoven’s musical legacy.” – Barry Kempton, Artistic and Executive Director
