GRAPHIC DESIGNER

POSITION SUMMARY

Schubert Club seeks an experienced graphic designer to develop and implement compelling print and digital materials to support Schubert Club’s programming and Museum. The Graphic Designer is responsible for maintaining and integrating Schubert Club’s brand into all print and digital materials and the production of Schubert Club’s program book, An die Musik. Additionally, the Graphic Designer is responsible for creating, editing and managing video projects to be used for Schubert Club promotional or educational content. This position reports to and works closely with the Director of Marketing.

32-40hrs/week

Salary range: $40k-45k DOQ

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develop, design, and execute creative and production processes for all print and digital marketing and program-related materials to ensure materials consistently communicate Schubert Club’s brand and mission.
    • With the Director of Marketing and other key staff, create a master calendar of print projects including:
      • Direct mail pieces advertising Schubert Club’s various series
      • Brochures, rack cards, palm cards, and event calendars promoting Museum, education, and concert offerings
      • Newspaper and program book ads
      • Marketing signage and posters
      • Ticketing materials including stock, envelopes, inserts, and order forms
      • Programs and inserts
      • Concert, special event, and education event signage
      • Development mailings
      • Other promotional items
      • Other print projects as needed
    • Receive and develop design requests on an ongoing basis from Schubert Club staff; create materials from each request that communicate the needs of events. Meet with personnel involved in a design request to fully understand the purpose for the requested material. Negotiate and develop timelines that best meet the demands of each request and project.
    • Work with various print shops and mailhouses to find the best quality and best prices to optimize marketing budget. Establish relationships and work with vendors to resolve problems, negotiate pricing, and ensure materials are delivered on time.
    • Oversee use of Schubert Club brand to make sure it is always used in a consistent and appropriate manner. Follow up with staff, colleagues and other organization liaisons to make sure incorrect usage is remedied.
    • Collect, organize, and make available for press photos that are approved for publicity use.
    • Work with marketing staff to create images for digital marketing initiatives such as website, Facebook and email.
    • Create copy as needed to support effective design.
    • Archive and organize design materials and digital assets in an easily accessible manner on the network drive.
    • Install signage in Rice Park kiosks on an ongoing basis being sure old signage is replaced promptly.

 

  1. Manage and execute the creative and production process for An die Musik; which includes content layout, graphics, directors’ notes, and any other appropriate articles, ensuring that all deadlines are met for the magazine to be printed on time and within budget for appropriate concerts.
    • Create master calendar of all An die Musik issues for a season and ensure that all issues are completed on time and within budget.
    • Ensure that all design choices consistently convey and maintain Schubert Club’s visual brand, integrating logos and aesthetics for programs and events that are consistent with the branding of contracted organizations or artists.
    • Manage incoming sources of content from internal Schubert Club staff members, contracted artists, and partner organizations.
    • Edit copy as needed to support effective design.
    • Create other program books as needed for concerts, education events, and special events.
    • Ensure that program books are accessible to all patrons and viewers including large print formats and braille upon patron request.

 

  1. Work with Director of Museum and Education to ensure design needs of the Schubert Club Museum are met on time and within budget.
    • Create visual interpretative materials and other signage for exhibits in the galleries including temporary installations.
    • Create video and take photos of museum items to be used for promotional, editorial and online use.
    • Create video for educational and informational technology within Museum exhibits and installations.

 

  1. Create, edit and manage video projects to be used for Schubert Club promotional or educational content.
    • Collaborate with Schubert Club colleagues to conceive video projects which promote and enhance Schubert Club programs and Museum.
    • Oversee the development of agreed upon projects to include budget, timeline, filming, editing and means of distribution.

 

  1. Support and foster Schubert Club’s collaborative business practices to ensure all organizational activities support Schubert Club’s mission successfully.
    • Provide administrative support when the need arises.
    • Assist with setting up and supporting concerts and events as needed.
    • Assist with Museum, educational, and office wide projects as needed.
    • Act as a steward and liaison with the public at Schubert Club events, to foster the positive reputation of Schubert Club.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completed bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field or;
  • Three to five years of applied experience in a professional graphic design role.
  • Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite and proficient in Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Experience with photography and videography.
  • Knowledge of classical music preferred.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to spend extended periods of time in front of a computer
