Announcing Family Concerts 2017 (Concerts in March & April)

We’re pleased to announce the 27th season of Family Concerts!

This series features nationally and locally celebrated performing artists in programs of folk, ethnic and classical music. Storytelling, dance and audience participation add to this vibrant array of concerts, created for children of all ages and their families. This year’s theme, “With Strings Attached” features three different concerts with a variety of stringed instruments including harp, guitar, dulcimer, nickelharp, fiddle, violin, viola and cello. Concerts take place at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in the St. Anthony Park neighborhood of St. Paul.

New this year: Choose your own pricing: tickets from $0 – $5 per person. Advanced ticket reservations are strongly encouraged (no tickets required for babes in arms up to age 1.)

2017 Concerts

Friday, March 3, 2017 • 6pm & 7:15pm
Yolanda Kondonassis, harp and Jason Vieaux, guitar

Two of America’s premier soloists and recording artists join forces in a program featuring “Spirit of Trees” by Alan Hovhaness and other works that bring music and nature together. Readings from Kondonassis’ “Our House is Round: A Kid’s Book About Why Protecting Our Earth Matters,” carry a special message from the author to all who care about protecting our natural resources.

The Scandinavian Trio 

Featuring: Ross Sutter, guitar; Cheryl Paschke, nykelharp & fiddle; Marya Hart, piano
Scandinavian music and song fill the air when three of Minnesota’s favorite folk musicians perform a delightful program blending traditional and fun music, dances, games and stories for all ages.

Daedalus String Quartet

Featuring: Min-Young Kim & Matilda Kaul, violins, Jessica Thompson, viola; Thomas Kraines, cello
One of our country’s leading string quartets tells stories through music, from works about cats and dogs, to music about Hansel and Gretel by young American composers, to string quartets by some of the world’s great composers like Haydn and Dvorak.
