Barry Kempton
The Schubert Club’s New Artistic and Executive Director
SAINT PAUL, MN—The Schubert Club is proud to announce that Barry Kempton has been chosen as The Schubert Club’s new Artistic and Executive Director. He will succeed Kathleen van Bergen who has recently begun work as the President and CEO of the Philharmonic Center for the Arts in Naples, Florida.
Mr. Kempton has extensive experience in arts management and artistic programming. He is presently in his fifth year as Chief Executive of the City of London Sinfonia, London, England. Prior to that position he was with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra for 11 years as Vice President for Artistic Planning and General Manager. His first position, after graduating from the University of Bristol, was with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra as Concerts Director and Education Manager.
Mr. Kempton commented, "I am truly thrilled to be entrusted with this opportunity to lead The Schubert Club and to return to the Twin Cities, a community which values its thriving arts scene so highly. I am looking forward to working with the Board and the staff team on developing plans and programs for the future which both honor the organization's extraordinary history and explore new ways to serve our community."
The Schubert Club is excited to build on its many artistic strengths under the leadership of Mr. Kempton. As Minnesota’s oldest arts organization, The Schubert Club is confident that Mr. Kempton will continue the tradition of cultural and musical excellence that has characterized this organization for the past 129 years.
